The troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday arrested three Bangladeshi nationals while they were attempting to enter Indian territory by crossing the border fence in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, officials said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, a BSF Public Relations Officer (PRO) informed that BSF troops on duty apprehended the Bangladeshi nationals near the Harihardola Border Outpost (BOP) in Sepahijala district. They were caught red-handed while trying to illegally enter Indian territory.

All the apprehended Bangladeshi citizens were identified as residents of Comilla district in Bangladesh. The BSF stated that it has intensified monitoring and vigilance along the Tripura border to prevent infiltration. In September alone, 65 Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by BSF troops while attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory.

On September 11, the BSF apprehended three other Bangladeshi nationals from two locations based on a tip-off. During interrogation, one of the arrested Bangladeshi nationals confessed that the situation in Bangladesh was dire due to a severe lack of work, which had compelled them to come to India.

On September 3, a 16-year-old Bangladeshi girl was found dead with a bullet wound on her body near the Laitapura Border Outpost (BOP) along the Indo-Bangla international border in Kailashahar, located in Tripura’s Unakoti district. Her body was later handed over to the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and Bangladesh Police authorities following a post-mortem examination.

These incidents of infiltration come despite the tightened security along the international border. The increased vigilance follows assurances from the central government that the nation’s borders are well protected and that no illegal immigration would be permitted, especially in light of recent unrest in Bangladesh.
