2 BSF personnel injured by cattle smugglers, 1 suspect detained by Tripura Police

Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained minor injuries during a face-off with suspected cattle smugglers in the Bishalgarh sub-division under Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Friday.

The police detained one person for interrogation in connection with the incident, though no arrest has been made yet.

“The BSF personnel were not in an operation to apprehend the smugglers. It was coincidental that they came across the group on their way back from Sepahijala district. Naturally, the BSF team didn’t have sufficient strength to intercept them. Fearing that they would be arrested and the livestock recovered, the smugglers launched an attack on the BSF personnel. But they could not carry out the smuggling bid,” a BSF source informed.

The injured BSF personnel were discharged from the hospital after primary treatment.

The Tripura Police have registered a case against the smugglers under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Bishalgarh police station.

Meanwhile, BSF apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals and seized 168 kg of cannabis in the PR Bari area of South Tripura district on Friday.

“Based on specific intelligence inputs, on 07 November 2025, BSF troops apprehended 03 Bangladeshi nationals from Indian village Megliband, Katlamura, under PS Sidhai, Sub-division Mohanpur, dist West Tripura while they were planning to exfiltrate to Bangladesh,” the BSF said in a statement on Saturday.
