New UIDAI Aadhaar App Launched: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently launched a new Aadhaar app for citizens. This app is different from the m-Aadhaar app launched in 2017. The new app introduces several updated features aimed at making digital identity management simpler and more secure for the nearly 140 crore Aadhaar holders.

Besides giving users the convenience of storing their Aadhaar digitally on their smartphones, the app brings a range of other useful functions outlined below.

The new Aadhaar app can now be downloaded from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Earlier, managing multiple Aadhaar cards for family members was challenging because the mAadhaar app did not support that option. While the older app allowed users to update essential information, such as name, address, and mobile number, it still required visits to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The new application aims to ease many of these pain points.

Here are the key features offered by the Aadhaar mobile application, along with what sets it apart from the earlier mAadhaar app:

Store and manage multiple Aadhaars: Users can add and manage Aadhaar cards for up to five family members. The users must, however,  share a common registered mobile number, making it easier to handle multiple identities in one place.

Biometric lock: A biometric authentication feature lets users lock their Aadhaar data, ensuring that no one else can access or share their information unless they unlock it themselves. Primary controllers of the account can use their face or fingerprint to lock/unlock the app to access data.

Control what to share: The app gives users the flexibility to decide what information they want to share. For instance, they can choose to display only their name and photograph while keeping details like address or date of birth hidden.

QR code functionality: Aadhaar QR codes can be generated and scanned through the app, enabling quick verification without paperwork at banks, government departments, and service centres.

Offline access: Once the initial setup is complete, users can view their stored Aadhaar details even without an internet connection, though online mode offers the complete set of tools and services.

Activity tracking: The app includes a usage log that records where, when, and how the Aadhaar was used, providing an additional layer of transparency and security.
