You have moved to a new address. Great! Now, just set up everything and enjoy the comfort of your new home. But several essential services like your bank accounts, gas, etc will need to be updated. And for some of them, your Aadhar card will not just be handy, it will be mandatory as well. So, how do you update your new address on your Aadhaar card for free?
Step 1: Visit the official myAadhaar portal from any device with internet access.
Step 2: Login with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked phone number. For this, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, and the captcha code on the screen. You’ll need your registered mobile number to receive an OTP; enter this OTP to log in.
Step 3: After logging in, select the ‘Address Update’ option. Click on ‘Update Aadhaar Online’, then choose ‘Address’ as the field you want to update and proceed.
Step 4: Enter your new address as per your Proof of Address (POA). Include “Care Of” (C/O, S/O, W/O, D/O) details, if applicable. Make sure the address matches the document you will upload.
Step 5: Upload a clear, valid Proof of Address document. Accepted documents include passport, bank statement, utility bill, or rental agreement. Refer to the UIDAI website for the up-to-date list of accepted documents. For the detailed list of acceptable documents, check the table below:
Preview the entered details and the uploaded document carefully. Once verified, pay the applicable fee (currently waived; check portal updates for changes). If you are applying outside the fee-waiver period, you may have to pay a nominal amount.
Submit your update request. An acknowledgement receipt will appear, including a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) or Service Request Number (SRN). Use this URN/SRN to track your update status on the portal.
The address update usually processes within a few working days, though UIDAI notes it may take up to 30 days in some cases. You can check your update status any time using your URN/SRN on the myAadhaar portal.
Once approved, download your updated Aadhaar e-card directly from the portal.
Please note that, this process is accessible only if your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar. If not, visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra for assistance.
Is the online address update free?
