One Aamir Khan song that has stuck with audiences for 36 years is “Papa Kehte Hain” from Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, sung originally by Udit Narayan. Now, there’s a new version out that’s catching everyone’s attention. The latest version features in the upcoming biopic Srikanth, starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead role.
At the song launch on Monday, Aamir and Udit reunited and took a trip down memory lane. Udit recalled how he was nervous when he first met Aamir 36 years ago. At the event, Udit said, “I would like to congratulate the entire Srikanth team and our superstar. Aamir and I have been transported back to the old days. It’s been 36 years since the original song was released and I can’t believe you guys still remember the song.”
The singer recalled how he was scared initially, doubting if Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak song “Papa Kehte Hain” will work. He said, “36 years ago they introduced me to Aamir and said that I have to sing a song for him. I was scared and I was ready to go back home if the song didn’t work.” Aamir hilariously said that Udit looked at him and might have thought, “Yeh actor hai?”
Aamir also said that he was thrilled about “Papa Kehte Hain” from Srikanth and thanked the team for recreating the song. He said, “Yaadein taaza hogayi. I am remembering Nasir saab, Mansoor and others. It evokes such wonderful emotions in us.”
Srikanth is based on the story of industrialist Srikanth Bolla. The film also stars Alaya F, Jyotika and Sharad Kelkar among others.
