Actor Sonu Sood became a real-life hero during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he helped people across the country with transportation and food as the world had come to a standstill due to the lockdown. It all started with the actor arranging a couple of buses, but it went on to the actor arranging flights and other means of transport to help people. Sonu’s humanitarian work brought him offers from several political parties. They didn’t just offer him a ticket to run for elections but lured him with posts like Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.

In fact, after his social work, there were reports doing the rounds that Sood might enter politics, but the actor quashed them all. Now, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, he recalled the time and shared interesting details.

Sonu Sood said, “I was even offered the position of Chief Minister. When I turned it down, they suggested, ‘Why not Deputy Chief Minister?’ Some of the most influential people in the country were behind these offers, including a seat in the Rajya Sabha. They said, ‘Join us, you don’t need to fight elections, just be with us.'”

Sharing his reasons for declining these offers, the actor said, “Politics, for many, is about gaining wealth or power. Neither of those things interest me. I’m already helping people in my own way, without needing to answer to anyone. If I were in politics, I’d be accountable to someone, and that’s something that scares me. I like my freedom to help others without any strings attached.”

Sonu Sood was lured with perks of being a politician like high security, residence in Delhi, and a prestigious role with a government letterhead. However, none of these appealed to the actor. However, Sood didn’t completely decline the idea of taking a different route later in his life.

He said, “Maybe, one day, when I feel I’ve accomplished everything in this field (acting), I’ll think about other paths. But for now, I’m focused on acting and directing, and that’s where my heart lies.”
