Actors Manoj Bajpayee, Saurabh Shukla, Shefali Shah and director Ram Gopal Varma got together to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their film Satya. During the conversation, they spoke about the controlled chaos on set, and recalled shooting the song “Goli Maar,” after which they got pulled over by the cops. Manoj said that after they wrapped filming, they celebrated with beer.
In the chat with Film Companion, Saurabh Shukla, who in addition to playing Kallu Mama also co-wrote the film with Anurag Kashyap, revealed that the iconic song was shot twice. Ram Gopal Varma admitted that he didn’t have a proper choreographer for the song, and revealed that it was cut together from just six shots.
He said that at the time, it was common for Hindi film songs to be shot over a week, but “Goli Maar” was filmed in just one day, in six shots, without a choreographer. Released in 1998, Satya also starred JD Chakravarthy in the titular role, alongside Urmila Matondkar and a host of young actors. The film is also notable for giving several renowned industry names such as Anurag Kashyap and Apurva Asrani their first big break.
