Actor Parambrata Chatterjee, known for his extensive work in Bengali television and films, made a memorable debut in Hindi cinema with Vidya Balan’s Kahaani. He later featured in critically acclaimed projects like Pari alongside Anushka Sharma, Bulbbul with Triptii Dimri, and the ensemble film Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi.
At the recent SCREEN Live event, held in Kolkata for the first time, Parambrata participated in a rapid-fire round where he was asked to rank his female co-stars based on their talent. While he ranked Vidya Balan as the most talented, he placed Triptii Dimri at the bottom. Explaining his ranking, he commented on Triptii being labeled the “national crush,” saying, “It is what it is, national crushes are temporary, but class is permanent. I mean no offence. Sorry. What is she called? Bhabhi 2!”
However, Parambrata quickly clarified his statement, adding, “She is lovely, a very nice girl, and I really get along with her. But she still has miles to go. She entered the industry very young and will learn a lot. But Vidya, I mean, sorry to say, is a class apart in whatever she does.”
During the session, Parambrata Chatterjee shared his thoughts on the decline of mainstream Bengali cinema, attributing it to “cheap Bengali remakes of South films” that alienated audiences. He said, “Very loosely and carelessly made South remakes were dished out to the masses. Audience didn’t react to that very well as they found the same films being dubbed in Hindi.” He added, “Big chunk of West Bengal doesn’t watch Bengali cinema because they feel nobody cares about them. So, it is important that mass entertainers are made in Bengali cinema and that they fetch money.”
Parambrata attended the SCREEN Live event alongside director Srijit Mukherji. The duo is currently promoting their latest film, Shotyi Bole Shotyi Kichhu Nei, which features 14 actors and is an official adaptation of the 1989 Hindi film Ek Ruka Hua Faisla, itself a remake of the iconic American classic 12 Angry Men.
