Katrina Kaif will soon be seen with Vijay Sethupathi in director Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas, and in a recent interview, when Katrina was asked about what she thought of Vijay before she met him for the first time, she said that she googled his name to “refresh her memory” even though she claimed to have watched his film 96. In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Katrina misremembered the name of 96 and called it ‘Class of 83’, which was a different movie starring Bobby Deol.
She said, “I had actually first really noticed in the film class of 83… Is it class of 83 or 83?” When Vijay and Sriram both corrected her and reminded her that it was 96, she continued, “96, sorry. That’s a few years off but… I had actually loved that film 96. It had scenes that even now I remember in my head. The moments between him and Trisha, very unique and very tender, they really stayed with me. So I was familiar with him from that movie.”
Calling Sriram’s idea of casting Vijay “interesting”, she said that when she spoke to her group of friends about the potential casting, they were all very excited about it. “I was excited about it,” she said. Katrina said that while others keep calling their casting “unusual”, it does not seem unusual to her. “To me, it feel like two actors coming together for a very unusual story,” she shared.
When asked about Vijay’s stardom, Katrina expressed her opinion about his acting talent and said that she can never dissect anyone’s stardom. “I think he has a lot of honesty in what he does. He is very unafraid in what he is doing. He has a unique vision of life and I think that comes across in his performances. He has a unique way he sees life. And I think he is a gifted artist,” she said.
Merry Christmas releases in theatres in Hindi and Tamil on January 12.
