The commission has previously notified candidates that there are a total of 150 vacancies for IFoS and for CSE 1,056. The vacancies this year have decreased, in contrast with 1,105 posts last year. However, only 712 posts were available in 2021 and 796 in 2020.

Furthermore, experts have said that the UPSC prelims exam was easier this year as compared to the one held in 2023. Deepanshu Singh, an educator and a mentor for UPSC aspirants said, “There were less questions of ‘pair type’, and more of ‘match the columns’ type questions” .

The UPSC CSE exam is held in three stages — prelims, mains, and the personality test to select officers for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Indian Police Service (IPS), and other Grade A and B posts in the central government and its departments.
