TS Inter results row: The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education has stated that the students who committed or attempted suicide after Intermediate results were declared on April 18 had failed due to poor academic performance and not due to any errors in result processing. The Board said Monday that it specially re-verified the answer scripts of 53 students—23 who committed suicide, three who attempted suicide, and 27 other students who complained.

“On analysis it was found that out of 25, 10 have failed in one subject, 12 students have failed in more than one subject, three despite passing the examination have committed suicide. In total 22 have committed suicide and 3 have attempted suicide. In a peculiar case, a student has committed suicide even after scoring around 85 per cent and getting A grade. In one case a student committed suicide after writing third paper thinking that she would fail while in fact, she passed in all the three subjects she attempted. So Board feels that in depth analysis of these cases should be done by an expert committee and steps will be taken based on the report to avoid future cases of suicide,’’ the Board added.

“None of the students have failed due to the error as errors were rectified immediately after declaration of results. The failure is purely on the basis of students’ poor academic performance in the exams in a few subjects. There is no major deviation in pass percentage compared to previous years. In 2017, it was 61.34 per cent, 2018 it was 64.73 per cent, and in 2019 it is 62.29 per cent. The three-man committee appointed to look into the complaints of errors in results stated that no significant variation has been observed in the pass percentage of 2019 when compared to last two years. Errors were found in the results due to inadequate development, readiness and testing of the application suite. However, the magnitude, scale, and nature do not vitiate the results as a whole. The suicides have not relation to mistakes due to technical and result processing efforts,’’ the Board stated.The Board is re-verifying over 3 lakh answer scripts after allegations of large-scale errors and technical glitches in result processing by private firm Globarena Technologies Ltd which processed the results. The re-verification process would be completed in two weeks.
