Teachers’ Day 2024 Celebration Ideas: Every year, Indians celebrate Teachers’ Day on September 5 to remember the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. As a great thinker and educator, Radhakrishnan’s birthday is celebrated in the country to acknowledge teachers’ contributions and services shaping students’ lives.

On September 5, students share their thoughts on Teachers’ Day in various ways like writing poems, and speeches and enacting a skit. The indianexpress.com spoke to teachers and asked them how they wanted students to celebrate Teachers’ Day. Here are some pointers that students can use and make the day memorable for their favourite teachers.

Prakash Chowdhari, a Maths teacher at The Academy School, Pune shares that a speech with a personal anecdote that evokes nostalgia might remind the teacher how her students feel about her. The speech should have a memorable moment for both the teacher and students that makes his/her feel that the students value her teachings.

“Teachers wish to hear a genuine acknowledgment of their challenges and triumphs, recognising that behind the lessons taught are the countless hours spent preparing, grading, and supporting each student’s unique journey,’’ said Chowdhari.

So students remember that if you add a personal note to your writings, you will be successful in connecting with the teacher. Also, a touch of creativity through poetry, songs, or even a skit can elevate the atmosphere, making the appreciation truly memorable.

Another idea that might help you make this Teachers’ Day comforting is to note down your thoughts both good and bad about your teacher and let her guess who wrote that for her. So, what you can do is on a sticky note, write a memory with that teacher and paste it on a chart. Ask your fellow students to do the same.

This way you might get 15-20 sticky notes pasted on a chart with a memory. Once the teacher arrives in the classroom, you can play this small game and I am pretty sure you all will have a great laugh at the end of the period.

Karun Jha, an English tutor from Manav Rachna International School shares her views on what could be one of the ideal ways to celebrate the occasion.

“We often say that a strong foundation forms the basis of a child’s success, but rarely do we see pre-primary teachers getting the due credit and are often left undervalued as compared to senior school teachers,” claims Jha.

Teachers are architects of the student’s future. Visiting or sending a card to your pre-primary teachers on this special day will for sure give her or him shock waves that the student still remember. Adding a class picture will add more stars to the card. And we are pretty sure, the bonding between you and the teacher will surely increase thereafter. Especially with the increased use of social media, connecting with your teacher through social media can also be a good idea.

Anupama Chopra, an English facilitator at GD Goenka World School says that students may not realise this early in life, but sooner or later, they do understand the benevolence of teachers and how almost all teachers are unbiased and gauge their success in what their students achieve.

Students can also make a poster of appreciation for the teachers and give them after the assembly is over.

Chopra added, “Wisely said quote ‘respect is for those who deserve it, not for those who demand it’ deems fit in the life of teachers. Teachers can do magic as role models. Ultimately when they get their due respect and love, the connection gets deeper.”
