Salman Khurshid unveils Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trophy at Jamia

The rolling trophy, given to the university that wins all the three segments (Hindi, English and Urdu) of National Tri-lingual Debate, went to Aligarh Muslim University this year.

Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Saturday unveiled the National Tri-debate trophy, named after former president Dr Zakir Hussain, at Jamia Millia Islamia.

The rolling trophy, given to the university that wins all the three segments (Hindi, English and Urdu) of National Tri-lingual Debate, went to Aligarh Muslim University this year.

Addressing the students participated in the debates, Khurshid said, “A healthy debate is essential for a healthy and strong democracy. Those who think that only strike and agitation is the faith of educational institutions in the current times must visit Jamia campus to see there a lot positive taking place to strengthen the bond among different cultures.”

The trophy was unveiled at MA Ansari Auditorium, Jamia in the presence of Mr. Rajesh Priyadarshi, Editor, BBC Hindi and Prof. Tasneem Meenai, Dean, Students’ Welfare.

The national debate competition was organised by BOL: The debating society of Jamia Millia Islamia as part of the three days national cultural festival, MiRAAS-2016.

The University successfully organized the fourth season of MiRAAS this year and witnessed participation from more than 60 Universities across the country. More than 20 competitions including folk dance, Indian vocal, western vocal, creative writing, book cover design etc. were organised during this 3 day annual cultural festival.
