A cold wave is taking over the entire North India, and several state governments have ordered private and government schools to either shut down for a limited time period or change the reporting hours for students. From Uttar Pradesh to Punjab, here's a list of all the states that have brought changes: Uttar Pradesh The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on December 28 ordered the closure of all schools across Noida and Greater Noida on Friday and Saturday (December 29 and 30) due to cold weather conditions, according to the order issued by Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar. "In compliance with the instructions given by District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Maneesh Kumar Verma in view of the dense fog and extreme cold, all the boards (CBSE/ICSE/IB and others) recognised schools, council schools, government schools or non-government aided schools will observe holiday on December 29 and 30," Panwar was quoted by PTI. However, teachers and other staff members can continue with their usual schedule. Haryana In Haryana, the chief minister had earlier announced a winter break for 15 days, which will begin on January 1, 2024 and conclude on January 15, 2024. Schools are scheduled to reopen on January 16, 2024. “In the context of the above subject, you are informed that winter vacation is declared in all government and private schools of the state from January 1, 2024 to January 15, 2024. Schools will be reopened from January 16, 2024 (Tuesday),” the CMO posted on its official ‘X’ account. Jharkhand As per the official announcement, all government and private schools have been ordered to stay closed from December 26 to December 31, 2023. However, schools are allowed to conduct classes for 10 and 12, if required. “In view of increasing effect of cold wave in the state, all categories of government, non-government aided/unaided including minority schools and all private schools running in the state will remain closed from December 26 to December 31,” the state notified.
