The Maharashtra government has announced plans to set up 1,499 new colleges across the state. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
This decision was announced in the Maharashtra State Commission for Higher Education and Development (MAHED) meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ji at Sahyadri Guest House.
The Deputy CM shared that in this meeting a five year plan (2024-29) was discussed and approved for determining the locations of these proposed colleges.
“In this meeting, five-year comprehensive plan for 2024 to 2029 was approved for determining the locations for starting colleges and institutes,” Fadnavis tweeted. “According to this plan, colleges will be started at 1499 places in the state this year.”

During this meeting, experts also expressed satisfaction regarding the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
