The Gauhati University, Assam has appointed Nanigopal Mahanta as the 18th vice chancellor of the University. The announcement was made by Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on the microblogging site, X. The Vice Chancellor was serving as the political science professor at the varsity. Nanigopal Mahanta earlier served as the education adviser to the Assam government. Along with it, the education minister also appointed new vice-chancellors of Bhattadeva University and Rabindranath Tagore University. Professor Dhanpati Deka has taken charge as the vice-chancellor of Bhattadeva University, while Professor Manabendra Dutta Choudhury has been appointed as the vice chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University. He also earned another masters degree in Peace, Conflict Resolution and Policy studies from Berkley in University of California. In the US, he went as a Rotary World Peace fellow.
