IIT Goa scholarships: The Indian Institute of Technology Goa (IIT-G) provides a range of scholarships to deserving students every year. Some are in the form of college fee concessions, others come as direct benefit transfers to the students’ bank accounts.
In the first three years, IIT Goa offered 30 seats each in BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering branches. It is now increased to 150 seats in BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics and Computing. Apart from these, it offers some seats each in MTech in the same streams and some in Doctorate as well.
1. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: The scholarship is available to students belonging to General / OBC-NCL / EWS and whose gross income of parents (Considering both father and mother) should not be more than Rs 4,50,000 per annum (without considering any standard deduction).
2. Facilities of Free Messing (SC/ST): The scholarship is available to students belonging to SC/ST and whose gross income of parents (Considering both father & mother) should not be more than Rs 4,50,000 per annum (without considering any standard deduction).
3. Top Class Education Scheme for SC Students – UG students :
– The Scheme aims at recognizing and promoting quality education amongst students belonging to SCs, by providing full financial support. The Scheme will cover SC students for pursuing studies beyond 12 classes.
– The Scheme will operate in all the institutions notified by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for FY 2021-22 to 2025-26.
– The scholarship, once awarded, will continue till the completion of the course, subject to satisfactory performance of the student.
Eligibility:
– Those SC students having a total annual family income from all sources up to Rs. 8.00 lakh and having secured admission in a full-time prescribed course in any of the notified institutions according to the general selection criteria prescribed by the concerned institution, will be eligible for scholarship under the Scheme to the extent of the number of scholarships (slots) allocated to the institution for the course. Income declaration of self-employed parents/guardians should be in the form of a certificate issued by a revenue officer, not below the rank of Tehsildar. Employed parents/guardians are required to obtain an income certificate from their employer. Employed parents/guardians should obtain a consolidated certificate from the revenue officer for any other additional source of income. However, the students who have studied class X from any of the Central/State/Municipal Govt. or Govt. aided schools (except KVS schools), shall be automatically qualified under the scheme. For this purpose, students may upload a certificate in this regard.
– In case the number of eligible students admitted exceeds the number of slots allotted to the institution, the scholarship will be restricted to the top students in the inter-se merit list based on the admission criteria for the course as mentioned in Annexure-II. However, if there is more than one student with equal marks for the last available slot in an institution, preference should be given to the student with a lower family income. The remaining students from the SC category admitted to the institution shall be eligible for the Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) administered by this Ministry through State Governments/UT Administrations, provided such students are otherwise eligible under the said scheme.
– In case the institution finds that the number of eligible candidates in the 1 year is less than the number of slots allotted to it, the balance slots may be offered to eligible students studying in 2, 3, and 4 years, etc. based on inter-se merit of previous year’s result giving priority to those with a higher number of years left to complete their respective course i.e. 2-year students are to get priority over the 3 year students and so on.
– Thirty per cent of slots allotted to the institution shall be reserved for eligible SC girl students as per their inter-se merit. In the absence of a sufficient number of female students, the slots may be transferred to eligible boy students as per their inter-se merit.
– However, the 30 per cent slots as mentioned above will not include those female students who are selected based on their performance in the overall merit list of SC students of the Institution.
– The benefit of the Scheme will not be provided to more than 2 siblings in a family. The students will submit an affidavit to the Institution to certify that he/she is not the third sibling of the family who is availing benefits under the Scheme.
– The scholarship will be terminated if the student fails to get promoted to the next semester/class. However, once such a student gets promoted to the next class, the scholarship shall be released suo moto.
4.Post Matric Scholarship for SC students (All States) – UG/PG students:
– These scholarships are available for studies in India only and awardees are selected by the State Government / Union Territory to which the applicant belongs (i.e. the State / UT in which permanently settled or domiciled, as per the terms of domicile decided by the state).
– This applies to all the students who are currently beneficiaries of the scheme as well as fresh admissions.
Eligibility:
– The scholarships are open to nationals of India only.
– Only those candidates who belong to scheduled castes so specific to the State / Union Territory to which the applicant belongs / domiciled as determined by the State / Union Territory and who have passed the matriculation or higher secondary or any higher examination of a recognised university or board of secondary education will be eligible.
– Scholarships will be paid to the students whose parents / guardians’ income from all sources does not exceed Rs 2,50,000 during the last financial year. An income certificate is required to be taken at the time of admission only for courses that are continuing for more than one year. The income certificate shall be issued by the authority as decided by the State government.
– The ceiling age limit for admission as regular student in different classes should be decided by the concerned institution.
– Candidates who, after passing one stage of education are studying in the same satage of education in a different subject example intermediate science after intermediate arts or Bcom after BA or MA in other subjects will not be eligible.
– Students who pursue their studies through correspondence / online courses are also eligible. The term correspondence includes distance and continuous education for courses in Central / State universities only. Non-refundable fees shall be paid and no academic allowance will be paid.
– All the children of any parent / guardian will be entitled to receive the benefits of the scheme.
– A scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other scholarship / stipend. If awarded any other scholarship, the student can exercise options for either of the two, whichever is more beneficial to him/her. And should inform the awarding authority through the head of the institution about the option made.
– All seats filled through arbitrary and non-transparent processes (including management quota, NRI quota, spot admission, etc) without following the merit criteria as decided by the State government are not eligible for these scholarships.
– Students shall be encouraged to have Aadhaar-linked bank accounts to facilitate payments through the Aadhaar payment bridge.
5. National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students – Scholarship (Formally Top Class Education for Schedule Tribe Students) – only for scholarships – UG/PG students: The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious Scheduled Tribe students to enable them to pursue higher education after completing a post-graduate degree. Fellowship under the Scheme will be for pursuing MPhil, PhD by those ST students who have passed the Post-graduation / Master’s Degree examination.
Eligibility:
– Post-graduation and should have been admitted to the universities covered under the category, as mentioned in 2.4 below.
– The candidates should have a minimum of 55 per cent marks at the final examination/ grading at the PG level.
6. Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for ST students – UG/PG students:
– A Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented by the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations.
– 100% Central assistance over and above the committed liability of the States Governments/UTs admission from the Government of India.
– The Scheme provides financial assistance to the Scheduled Tribe students studying at post matriculation or post-secondary stage.
– Scholarships are available for studies in India only.
– The State Government and UT to which the applicant belongs awards the Scholarship.
– The scheme also covers central assistance to States / UTs for setting up Book Banks.
Eligibility:
– Scholarships are paid to students whose parents / guardians’ income from all sources does not exceed Rs. 2.50 lakh per annum.
– All children of the same parents/guardian are eligible.
– Scheduled Tribe candidates who have passed the matriculation or higher secondary or any higher examination of a recognized University or Board of Secondary Education are eligible.
– The scholarships are available for the study of all recognized post-matriculation or postsecondary courses in recognized institutions except certain identified training courses like aircraft maintenance engineering courses, private pilot license courses, etc.
– Students studying through correspondence courses are eligible.
– Employed students on leave without pay for the entire duration of a full-time course are eligible for the course.
– The scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other scholarship/stipend.
– Students who have received coaching in any of the pre-examination training centers with financial assistance from the Government will not be eligible.
7. CENTRALLY SPONSORED SCHEME OF POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR ST STUDENTS-GOA – UG/PG students: The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to the scheduled tribe students who are studying at post-matriculation or post secondary stage to enable them to complete their studies.
– The scholarship will be given for the study of all recognised post-matriculation for post-secondary courses pursued in recognised institutions.
– The scholarships are open to nationals of India.
– Only those who belong to scheduled tribes so specified to the State / UT to which the applicant belongs and who have passed the matriculation or higher secondary or any higher examination of recognised university or board of secondary education.
– Candidates who after having completed their educational career in one professional line, wish to study for another profession such as, LLB after BT / BEd or ISC after IA or BCom after BA or MA, will not be eligible.
– Students studying in class 11 higher secondary schools which have a continuous school course of class 12 will not be eligible.
– Students pursuing post-graduation courses in medicine will be eligible if they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
– Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible. The term correspondence also includes distant and continuing education.
