IIT Bhubaneswar Placements (5 years): Average salary increases; slow rise in percentage placed

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar was established in 2008, and the main campus at Argul, Khordha district was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on December 24, 2018.

As far as the placement is concerned, the total number of offers has increased from 130 in 2018 to 301 in the last five years’ placement season of IIT Bhubaneswar.

While the number of total offers decreased from 130 in 2018 to 120 in 2019, it only increased after that, that is, 160 in 2020, 214 in 2021 and 301 in 2022.

However, the percentage of placed students has seen a small increase in the past few years. While it was 86 per cent in 2018, it increased to 89.55 in 2019 but declined to 87 in 2020 which might be an effect of the Covid pandemic. It increased once again to 90 in 2021, but took a hit and fell to 88 per cent in 2022.

One aspect where the institute has seen constant growth is the average salary which started with Rs 11.15 lakh per annum in 2018 and then increased to Rs 11.44 lakh per annum in 2019, Rs 15.8 lakh per annum in 2020, Rs 16.27 lakh per annum in 2021 and then to Rs 17.5 lakh per annum in 2022.

Additionally, in 2018 the highest number of job offers were received from core industries, and around 55 companies had visited the campus. The number of participating companies increased to 89 in 2019.

MNCs such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, D.E. Shaw, Oracle, Ceremorphic, Media.Net, NIUM, JLR, Analog device, Zomato, Mathworks, Caterpillar, TATA Steel R & T, AIRA Matrix, ARM, Maruti Suzuki, Applier Materials, L & T, JSW, Vedanta, Virohan, Jaguar LandRover, Adobe,  GE India, Honeywell, Qualcomm, TCS R & D and Tata Steel have participated in the placements in past few years.

PSU’s like ISRO, IOCL, HPCL, NCCBM, Oil India Limited, REC, TRAI, GAIL, CDAC, WAPCOS, BEL, C-DOT, C-DAC, GAIL & NTPC (Off-campus) have participated in the campus placements in the past few years.
