In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 Engineering rankings, IIT (BHU) Varanasi holds the 10th position, while IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is ranked at 15th. With such close rankings, students are keen to understand how these institutions compare, particularly in terms of placement performance. Let’s delve into the data to see which institute stands out.
IIT (BHU) Varanasi has seen consistent growth in its average salary packages over the years. In 2023, the average salary offered was Rs 24.31 lakh per annum, up from Rs 16.69 lakh per annum in 2020 and Rs 15.90 lakh per annum in 2019. This upward trend indicates a strong and growing demand for its graduates.
In contrast, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s average salary in 2023 varied across branches. The highest average CTC was Rs 27.29 lakh per annum for Computer Science Engineering, while Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering reported averages of Rs 20.49 lakh per annum and Rs 14.74 lakh per annum, respectively. While competitive, the variations in CTC highlight the importance of branch selection at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
IIT (BHU) Varanasi continues to attract top-paying offers. In 2023, the highest domestic package reached Rs 1.15 crore per annum, a significant increase from Rs 58 lakh per annum in 2020. The highest international package in 2019 was an impressive Rs 1.52 crore per annum.
Meanwhile, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s highest package in 2023 was Rs 56 lakh per annum for BTech Computer Science Engineering. Although this figure is competitive, it falls short of the highest offers at IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
At IIT (BHU) Varanasi, the Computer Science branch stood out with an average package of Rs 34.43 lakh per annum in 2023, accompanied by a high placement rate of 97.32 per cent. Electrical Engineering also performed well, with an average package of Rs 30.25 lakh per annum and a placement rate of 86.05 per cent.
IIT (ISM) Dhanbad also displayed strong branch-wise performance. The Computer Science Engineering branch achieved a placement rate of 93.13 per cent with an average CTC of Rs 27.29 lakh per annum in 2023. Electrical Engineering recorded an average CTC of Rs 20.49 lakh per annum and a placement rate of 81.31 per cent.
Both institutions have maintained commendable placement percentages. In 2023, IIT (BHU) Varanasi’s Computer Science branch had a placement rate of 97.32 per cent, followed closely by Electrical Engineering at 86.05 per cent.
Similarly, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad reported a placement rate of 93.13 per cent for Computer Science Engineering and 92.45 per cent for Electronics Engineering in 2023. These figures underscore the strong placement performance across multiple branches.
Both IIT (BHU) Varanasi and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad have demonstrated robust placement records, with IIT (BHU) Varanasi leading in terms of the highest and average salary packages. However, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s solid placement percentages and competitive branch-wise performance make it a formidable choice.
