The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the organising institute for GATE 2026, has released the sample question paper for Energy Science (XE-I) along with downloadable soft-copies of previous years’ GATE question papers from the year 2007, all the way till 2025. Candidates can access both the previous year question papers and the sample paper from the official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
According to the official announcement, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 is schedule to take place on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The national-level exam will be conducted in multiple shifts across the mentioned dates.
Candidates can follow the step-by-step guide here to access the sample papers and the previous year question papers:
Step 1: Go to the official website of IIT Guwahati at gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
Step 2: On the homepage top banner, look for ‘Downloads’ section
Step 3: You will be redirected to the downloads page. Here you can access sample question paper for Energy Science (XE-I); Previous year’s papers.
Step 4: In order to access previous year’s papers candidates can either click on the “Question papers of previous years” option for bulk download; or, scroll down to find the “Year-wise download of question papers 2021-2025”.
Step 5: On the first link candidates will get the option to download from a google drive, or the second link will give them a year-wise breakdown of the subjects and subsequent question paper links.

GATE 2026: IIT Guwahati releases exam pattern, announces paper-wise syllabus
GATE is a national-level Computer-Based Test (CBT) administered jointly by the Department of Higher Education and several IITs, with IIT Guwahati being the organising institute for 2026. GATE scores are used for admissions to postgraduate engineering and science programs and for PSU recruitment.
This year IIT Guwahati announced the introduction of a new optional sectional paper ‘Energy Science (XE-I)’. This will come under the Engineering Sciences (XE) category.
