School Holiday Today: Schools in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana have been closed on December 27 as the nation mourns following the passing of former Prime Minister of the country, Dr Manmohan Singh. At the age of 92, Dr Singh breathed his last after he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also announced a mounting period of seven days in the state.

As a mark of respect to Manmohan Singh, the state has also declared seven days of mourning, from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, and public entertainment programmes are strictly prohibited.

Himachal Pradesh educational institutes will remain closed till tomorrow (December 28) as part of a week-long state mourning.

In major cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore, schools, colleges and government offices have been closed today.

In Delhi, Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has also cancelled all her government programmes. It is expected other states will also follow suit.

The centre has also announced a seven-day mourning period with the national flag flowing at half-mast across the country.

Dr Manmohan Singh’s Education

A thinker, scholar, and economist, Dr Manmohan Singh took his last breath at the age of 92 after he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi late at night.

Born on September 26, 1932, Dr Manmohan Singh was the 14th prime minister of the country. He completed his matriculation and intermediate education at the Punjab University. In 1952, he pursued a bachelor’s in Economics (Honours) from Panjab University.
