The Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) is scheduled to take place today (July 30). Admit cards for the exam are available at the official website — natboard.edu.in.

It is a licentiate exam that gives these graduates the permission to practice in India as an MBBS Doctor and be considered an equivalent to a student who has finished his/her MBBS in India. The goal of the exam is to achieve more than 50 per cent marks to get the license.

Exam pattern

The exam consists of one paper, comprising of 300 multiple choice questions. Each question will have four response options/distractors in English language only. Candidates are required to select the correct  appropriate response/answer out of the four given response options provided in each question.

This exam will be delivered in two parts, which will be taken in a single day with each part comprising of 150 questions, to be attempted in 150 minutes. This will be multiple choice questions (MCQs) test delivered using computer network as per prescribed scheme.

Time pattern

The part 1 of FMGE will be conducted between 9 am and 11:30 am, and the second part will be conducted between 2 pm and 4:30 pm.

For the first part, candidates will be allowed to enter the exam centre at 7 am and gates will close at 8:30 am. Candidates will be granted access to their respective logins at 8:45 am after which they will be given time from 8:50 am till 9 am to read instructions.

Similarly, for the second part, candidates will be allowed to enter the exam centre from 12 pm till 1:30 pm, and they will be allowed to read the exam instructions from 1:50 pm. The exam will begin at 2 pm and conclude at 4:30 pm.

Candidates are required to report at the ‘Reporting Counter’ of test venue at as per time indicated in their admit cards. To avoid crowding at the test venue entry, there will be staggered time slots for candidates to report.

The reporting counter will close 30 minutes prior to the test start time. The candidate will have to flash the admit card and ID proof for verification to the exam functionary standing across the table with barcode/QR code reader. This will inform the candidate about the assigned lab number.

Documents needed

— Printed copy of Barcoded/QR coded admit card with his/her photograph pasted on it

— Any government issued photo IDs such as PAN card, Aadhar card, driving license, Voter ID, Passport.

— FMGE admit card

Any stationery item like textual material (printed or written), notes, plastic pouch, calculator, pen, writing pad, pen drives, eraser, etc will not be allowed in the exam centre. Additionally, electronic devices such as mobile phone, bluetooth, earphones, microphone, pager, wrist watch/health band, calculator, electronic pen/ scanner etc will also not be allowed in the exam centre.

Marking criteria

Candidates should remember that there will be no negative marking. A candidate will be declared as having passed only if he/she obtains a minimum of 150 marks out of 300 in the examination.

Results (Pass/Fail) for eligible candidates will be displayed on NBEMS website. However, there is no provision for re-totaling/reevaluation.

“There are no restrictions on number of attempts that can be availed by a candidate. However, FMGE being a qualifying examination, once a candidate qualifies the FMGE, he or she shall not be eligible to take the FMGE again. Any examination taken by a candidate in violation of this clause shall be treated as void and as cancelled,” the official notification states.
