In addition to using the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) marks, the University of Delhi (DU) will also be using the Class 12 marks obtained in the board exams to fill remaining vacant seats after the regular admission rounds conclude.
This announcement by the Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh comes a day after the University Grants Commission (UGC) on August 1 allowed the central universities to conduct their own exams to fill vacant seats so that no seats remain vacant.
Confirming that the university will now not conduct another exam to fill the vacant seats, the DU Vice-Chancellor said: “We will ensure that all seats in this academic year are filled.”
According to the data shared by Delhi University, last year about 5,000 seats remained vacant after the admission rounds were over.
The admission for a total of 79 programmes and 69 colleges in DU is underway and on August 1; it started the second phase of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) UG process. CSAS UG is divided into three phases – phase I applying to the University of Delhi, phase II filling the preferences for programmes and colleges, and phase III allocation-cum-admission.
According to the UGC guidelines to fill vacant seats, UGC said that the CUET scores will remain the primary criteria for admitting students in the central universities. However, students who appeared in CUET, but may or may not have applied to the respective university for the courses or programmes earlier may also be considered.
Students who appeared in CUET may also be considered irrespective of the domain subject papers in which they appeared, the SoP said adding that the universities can relax the domain subject-specific criteria for admission to a particular course or programme.
