All government and private schools in Delhi will remain closed for students from Nursery to Class 5 until January 12 due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, Minister of Education Atishi announced on Sunday. "Schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next five days due to the prevailing cold weather conditions, for students from nursery to Class 5," Atishi said in a post on X. This comes after the Delhi government, in a previous order on Saturday, extended the winter break till January 10 in government-aided and unaided recognised private schools. However, hours later the government retracted the order. The announcement of school closure came as the minimum temperature on Sunday in the city was recorded at 8.2 degrees Celsius. Punjab, too, has ordered all government and private schools to remain shut from January 8 to January 14. "Keeping in view the severe cold, it has been decided to have a holiday from January 8 to January 14 in all the government and private schools of Punjab up to class 10," the Punjab CM shared on 'X'. Schools in Noida and Greater Noida for students in Class 8 have also been ordered to stay shut up until January 14, 2024. In the neighbouring state of Haryana, Chief Minister M L Khattar had earlier announced a winter break for 15 days, which began on January 1, 2024, and will conclude on January 15, 2024. No extension of the winter break has been announced yet. Even in Rajasthan, all government, non-government-aided, and private schools till Class 8 have been ordered shut till January 13. In Lucknow, too, the district administration has announced that schools in the city will remain closed for students up to Class 8 till January 10 amid a cold wave. Schools will remain open for Class 9 to 12 students with a new time of 10 am to 3 pm.
