A total of 14,99,790 candidates registered for the CUTE exam this year, and approximately 28 lakh students appeared, of which 19.2 lakh were unique candidates.
To calculate the normalised score for CUET UG candidates, three variables are required: the raw score of the candidate (A), the total number of candidates with a score equal to or less than her raw score (B), and the total number of candidates in that particular session (C).
The mathematical formula applied is B divided by C multiplied by 100.
For example, take the case of a student who appears in a session with 41,326 other candidates. Say, she obtains 121 marks, scoring more than 37,244 other candidates of her session. Her normalised percentile score will be 37,244/41,326X100, which comes to 90.1224411. Percentile scores will be calculated up to 7 decimal places.

The NTA will declare CUET UG 2023 results today, UGC chief, M Jagadesh Kumar announced via Twitter.
The exam is conducted in multiple shifts over several days across multiple locations/centres in India and abroad. Therefore, it is not possible for NTA to maintain the same level of difficulty for each paper. In such a scenario, normalised marks ensures that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to any such factor.
"In subjects such as sports or fine arts, some weightage (e.g. 25%) is given to the skill component by some universities. However, adding raw marks of the skill component and the remaining weightage (75%) of percentile cannot be done to prepare the rank list because it would be like adding oranges to apples,” UGC Chief explained in indianexpress.com.
Raw scores are converted into percentile scores and then into normalised scores for CUET UG. However, the universities are instructed to consider only the normalised raw score while preparing merit lists. NTA claims that this method has proven to be accurate for estimating normalised marks of candidates.
As per the CUET UG 2023 information bulletin, "If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks."
The NTA released a revised answer key on July 12 for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023. A total of 411 questions have been dropped from the answer key.

“Delhi University has been very upfront about it that it is important to select as many colleges as possible in your college preference, and same goes for courses. If students choose only a couple of institutes in their application form, they can miss out on getting admission this year if the CUET UG score doesn’t work in their favour,” Poonam Verma, Principal of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, told indianexpress.com.

University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, University of Allahabad, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University and Jamia Millia Islamia have received the highest number of applications.
Sanghamitra Baksi is first year BA (Hons) English literature student at Miranda House. Being an avid reader, she thought English Literature would be a good option for her. In CUET UG 2022, she secured 100 percentile with a perfect 800 out of 800 score. She completed Class 12 from Modern Convent School in Dwarka and secured 98.2 per cent in CBSE board exams.

Interestingly, there has been a significant increase from the number of candidates from Jammu and Kashmir. In 2022, a total of 13,021 students took CUET UG, which increased to 82,655 this time. There has also been a considerable jump in the number applicants from North-Eastern region (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim) from 59,208 in 2022 to 77,365 in 2023 — an increase of 31 per cent.
A similar trend from last year is the states which have received the highest number of registrations. Like 2022, the top three states with the largest number of applications are Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Bihar. Among the five Southern states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana), the highest number of applications were received from Kerala. A total 56,111 applications were submitted from Kerala.
While, BML Munjal University, GD Goenka University, Lovely Professional University (LPU), Galgotias University, SRM University and many more have adopted CUET 2023 this time. However, not all varsities are sure about the UGC-introduced entrance test, given the history of technical glitches and a delay in the admission process.
“There is no guarantee about admission. When the students fail to make the grade through CUET for admission into government universities, they fall back on private universities only. So, when the aspirants can exercise that option well ahead of the conduct of the CUET, don’t you think is it more prudent and a smart move?” Major Genernal Bhaskar Chakravarty, director of admissions, Amity University, expressed his concern.
Read why other universities are hesitant about CUET UG
Last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced the Common University Entrance Test undergraduate (CUET-UG) and made it compulsory for all central universities to opt for it. However, it was not mandated for state universities, even though UGC Chief M Jagadesh Kumar said he would want more state and deemed-to-be institutions to adopt CUET.
In August 2022, Kumar held a virtual conference with the heads of several deemed-to-be universities and V-Cs of a few state universities and urged them to be a part of the debut year of CUET. However, not everyone agreed. Why? Read the complete story here
As per NTA, if none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks.
Additionally, if more than one option is found to be correct then candidates will be awarded five marks (+5) to only those whose students have marked any of the correct options. If all options are found to be correct then five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
First, the NTA sorts the candidates in descending order on the basis of their percentile scores, after which their raw marks are listed against their percentiles. A third metric called ‘interpolated mark’ is then calculated for each candidate using a method called linear interpolation.
This mathematical concept is applied to find the interpolated marks for every student, assuming that every student appeared on the same paper twice. Their actual raw marks were then divided by the interpolated marks, and the normalised marks will be computed.
The CUET UG exam is held on different days and in different shifts, across several exam centres in India and abroad. Due to this, there are different sets of question papers for every subject, which makes it difficult for the agency to maintain the same level of difficulty for all exams.
“In addition to the above difficulty, in subjects such as sports or fine arts, some weightage (e.g. 25%) is given to the skill component by some universities. However, adding raw marks of the skill component and the remaining weightage (75%) of percentile cannot be done to prepare the rank list because it would be like adding oranges to apples,” UGC Chief explained in indianexpress.com.
Thus, the NTA uses the normalisation method. This normalisation formula ensures that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to any such factor.
The provisional answer keys released this year had a lot of 'obvious' reasons, several experts and students had alleged. Keeping this in mind, the NTA, for the first time, released 'final revised provisional answer keys'. NTA welcomed objections against the first set of answer keys (through website link and email suggestions) and then released revised answer keys.
After that, the NTA on Wednesday released 'final provisional answer keys'.
NTA on Wednesday released the revised answer key for Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2023. Candidates who appeared for the exam can check the answer key at the official website — cuet.samarth.ac.in. A total of 411 questions have been dropped from this answer key.
A total of 12 students topped Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG in 2022. These 12 students were declared as toppers as they secured 100 percentile in at least five papers. Most of the toppers preferred studying Political Science at Delhi University. Read about them at indianexpress.com
