The NTA will conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from May 21 onwards. Registration for CUET UG will close on March 30. The calendar for other state and national-level entrance tests like JEE Main and NEET has already been announced.
The JEE Main is a stepping stone for anyone wanting to get into the world of engineering and on the other hand, the CUET examination provides a common platform for students to get admission into the UG programmes by some of the top universities in the country under the Ministry of Education, (MoE).
CUET is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode and is divided into 4 sections- Section 1A: Language test, 1B: Language test, Section 2: Domain-specific test, and Section 3: General aptitude test. While Section 3 is similar for every candidate, Section 1A and Section 1B have a total of 13 and 20 different languages to choose from, and Section 2: Domain-specific test consists of 27 different subjects which candidates can choose according to their desired UG course.
The students opting for subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in CUET section 2 will have an added advantage due to the JEE Main being conducted ahead of CUET and a wide array of overlapping topics between the two. As subjects like Physics can be tough to prepare for due to the examination testing the understanding of fundamentals as well as the time-management skills of the candidate, the preparation for JEE can be helpful as it will directly assist candidates also appearing for CUET: Physics.
The overlapping syllabus between the two examinations for Physics consists of-
Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effect of Current and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Current, Optics, Electromagnetic Waves, Atoms and Nuclei, Electronic Devices, Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation, Communication Systems
Some helpful tips to ramp up the preparation for CUET physics are-
1) Create a 1-month study plan as per your need- As several topics overlap between JEE and CUET and any serious candidate would have already prepared them for JEE, the candidate needs to know the difference between the two as well. JEE Main exam consists of topics in both class 11 and class 12 while CUET consists of topics only from class 12.
2) Practice solving numerical- The most common thing that any candidate dreads when appearing for CUET and JEE are the physics numerical questions. These questions test the presence of mind of the candidate while also testing their retention power. It is important to take out extra time for numerical questions.
3) Take mock tests from the official website of CUET- It is common knowledge that mock exams play a huge role in competitive examination preparation. Appearing for mock tests will enable the candidate to grasp the idea of how the exam is set along with allowing them to find their shortcomings i.e., mistakes and weak areas.
4) Make notes catered to your needs for revision- Every candidate’s retention power is different which is why it is important to make notes of important formulas and headings to remember them. Focus on the weaker areas; make notes of the topics to remind yourself about them through pointers.
5) Solve the previous year’s exams of CUET- As only a month will remain after JEE for CUET, solving the previous year’s exam papers will help you curb the time taken for completing the exam. By developing good time-management skills the candidate will be able to complete the exam in the given time with time left for revision.
Examinations are a part of life which is why it is important for students to use these last couple of months of preparation to get serious about their dreams and what they want to achieve in life. Hard work and dedication in the upcoming months will allow the candidates to achieve a high rank in both JEE and CUET.
