Bihar Board Class 12th Exam Pattern: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will declare the result for class 12 on March 21 at 2 pm at the official result website – biharboardonline.bihar.gov.in.

BSEB has changed the intermediate exam pattern twice in the last five years. From introducing more Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in the paper to offering multiple choices between questions, the paper pattern has evolved over the years.

In 2018, BSEB announced its decision to implement 50 per cent objective-type questions in the inter exams. In papers with practicals, of the total 100 marks, 30 marks were for practical exams and 70 marks for theory exams. Out of the 70 marks theory paper, 50 per cent of the total i.e 35 marks questions were asked as MCQs while rest 35 marks were subjective theory questions.

In 2019, the BSEB changed the exam pattern and introduced an extra optional paper in the intermediate exams. The students had to choose Hindi or English in paper 1 which carried 100 marks and in paper 2 they could select any of the 12 languages given as an option. Both the language paper carried 100 marks each.

Additionally, students got an option to choose a sixth paper. Earlier, there were only five papers carrying total marks of 500. These five papers included paper 1 (language), paper 2 (language), and three compulsory subjects of the selected streams (arts, science, commerce). From 2019 onwards, students were able to choose a sixth paper related to the particular stream or any of the 12 languages as an additional subject.

With the introduction of the sixth paper (additional subject), if a student fails in any one of the papers, the marks of the sixth paper will be evaluated as the main subject.

In 2023, expanding the scope of its 2018 decision, the board increased the number of MCQ-based questions asked in the paper. This year, subjects including both theory and practical exams had 42 MCQs out of which students had to attempt 35. Question papers carrying 100 marks will contain 60 MCQs out of which students had to attempt 50 questions and 50 marks paper had 30 MCQs out of which 25 questions had to be attempted.

For 100 marks paper, out of 25, a total of 15 questions of two marks must be answered whereas for 70 marks it will be 10 out of 18. The three marks questions have been dropped and the language papers included 5 marks questions.
