Ranoj Pegu, the Education minister of Assam, today wrote to the National Testing Agency (NTA) about providing Examination Centres for CUET in Barak Valley. Pegu claimed that there is only one Exam Centre for the CUET exam at Silchar, which is causing problems for students of his state as they are having to travel to far off places for the Common University Eligibility Test, Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024 exam. "I am directed to inform you that Barak Valley of Assam state consists of three districts: Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi. All the Colleges in these districts are affiliated with Assam University, located at Silchar (Cachar), which is a Central University. There is only one Exam Centre for the CUET exam at Silchar. But, the exam centres for Bengali and EVS are being given at Agartala (Tripura), Shillong (Meghalaya), and Guwahati. The students will face immense problems travelling to such distant places to appear for CUET. Therefore, I am directed to request you to take necessary steps for holding the examination for Bengali and EVS at Silchar like the other subjects," the official letter to NTA read. The minister has now requested NTA to hold the exams for Bengali and EVS at Silchar like the other subjects. CUET Ug 2024 commenced on may 15. The CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode examination for remaining 48 subjects (31 languages and 17 domain specific subjects) will be conducted on 21, 22, and 24 May 2024 in more than 600 examination centres located in about 300 cities across the Country and abroad.
