The Assam cabinet has proposed a 10 per cent reservation of total MBBS seats for NRI/ NRI sponsored students who have cleared NEET UG. The seats will be reserved annually after a deduction of 15 per cent All India quota, Central pool, North Eastern council quota, Royal government of Bhutan quota seats.

There will also be an increase in reservations for six communities of OBC, MOBC category (non-creamy layer). There will be an increase of 3 seats each for children of tea garden/ ex-tea garden communities or tribes., out of which 22 will be for Bhrahmaputra valley and 8 for Baruk valley. Moran, Matak, Tai Ahom, Chutia, Koch Rajbongshi.
Therefore, the seats will increase from 27 to 30 for children of tea garden/ ex-tea garden communities/ tribes, Moran and Matak communities will now get 8 seats each, of which one will be for BDS, Tai Ahom will now get 10 seats including one seat for BDS, Chutia and Koch Rajbongshi will now have 9 and 13 seats respectively and one seat each for BDS in both communities.
There is a 10 per cent EWS quota for MBBS seats in six medical colleges: Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Johrat, Tezpur and Barpeta.
