The Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) is setting up a Climate Change Media Hub at its Chennai campus to strengthen climate journalism in India. The Media Hub will be established in partnership with Germany’s Interlink Academy. It will run two flagship eight-month programmes over the next three years. Interested candidates can check details on the new programmes at the ACJ website – asianmedia.org. The last date to register for the programmes is October 3.

The two flagship programmes include the climate change residency programme and climate change mentorship programme.

The eight-month-long Climate Change Residency Programme is for the senior Indian journalists with at least seven years’ experience in climate change or environment reporting. Journalists attached to newsrooms in India and willing to take a break, and those independent journalists in India, can apply to the residency programme.

The Climate Change Mentorship Programme, also for eight months, is for young Indian journalists with two to three years’ experience in the media to produce multimedia stories from their places of work or residence. Independent journalists in India freelancing with small and alternative media outfits for two to three years can also apply to this programme. They will be mentored by veteran journalists in the field of climate change and the environment.

The hub, which will be launched in November 2025, seeks to focus on capacity building, networking, and resource creation for journalists covering climate change and environmental issues.

The orientation and training for the flagship programmes will include interactions with subject experts and mentors, and access to visual, audio and digital production and post-production facilities, academic resources, specialised journals and the library at the ACJ.

Both programmes will offer stipends, production support, and workshops to enhance multimedia reporting skills. Participants will also have access to ACJ’s production facilities, academic resources, and expert-led sessions.
