DU admissions 2016: The annual admission process of the Delhi University has started off on a bad note. The cut-off list was delayed, the website crashed and aspirants from out of station are left with very few options for accommodation.
The first cut-off was supposed to be released on June 22, according to the official website of the varsity. It was however postponed to June 30.
Many students from outside Delhi, who had come prepared for the admission process keeping the prescribed date in mind, were left stranded as they had booked their tickets home according to the previous dates.
Smriti and Kajri, who have come from Lucknow for the admissions, said that the website was not clear on instructions and it did not update the new dates as well.
“They had not made it clear in the information bulletin that we have to come here (to the campuses) and do this (admission formalities)”, the students said, adding that it was better when one had to visit individual colleges to fill out the forms instead of the online process.

Students also complain that finding suitable accommodation within a decent budget is also proving to be a problem.
Meghana, a DU aspirant from Kerala, said that she is taking the advice of the seniors as to where to stay as people have been overcharging.
Smriti and Kajri informed that people have been asking for as much as Rs.15,000 per person for a single room, that too on a triple sharing basis.
It is not just the paying-guest accommodations which have raised their rates. The internet cafes and printing shops have been making money off the admission chaos too. The students claimed that they have paid as much as Rs.100 for a single print out.

With railway tickets usually having been sold out months in advance and plane tickets being too expensive for many to afford, students from poorer families are finding it especially hard to deal with the admission chaos of the varsity.
Abrupt changes in the official schedule have marred the vacation plans of many as travel schedules need to be tailored to the new admission dates now.
The Delhi heat, which the outstation candidates are not accustomed to, is taking a toll as well. Running around in the dry and arid weather is exhausting their energies, especially since the deadline for day 1 of DU admissions was 1 o’ clock in the afternoon.
