With water mission being a flagship programme of the Narendra Modi government’s second term, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is ensuring that he is not leaving any opportunity to send the right message across. When he learnt that a group of schoolchildren from Amritsar’s Beyond English Language School was visiting the national capital, he decided to meet them, as they have worked on a water conservation project. Shekhawat hosted the 40 students and those accompanying them at his residence in the morning and took them to visit Parliament House. Shekhawat took photographs with them in front of the Gandhi statue and spent time with them in Parliament building as well.
Stress On Spiritual
Over 30 members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Wednesday interacted with Art of Living guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and sought guidance on a range of issues, including the purpose of life, stress and anger management, the art of living a detached and spiritual life, handling high expectations from people and attendant work pressures, promoting human values, and grooming the young. The one-hour interaction, organised at the official residence of Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, was attended, among others, by Deputy Chairman of the Upper House Harivansh, Ministers of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Home, and MPs from BJP, Congress, AIADMK, DMK, BJD, TRS, YSRCP and TDP.
Distance From Debate
The economic slowdown is one issue which the Congress has identified to attack the Narendra Modi government with. The party has held street protests in several states and is scheduled to hold a rally in Delhi next month. But when the Rajya Sabha took up the issue of economic slowdown for discussion on Wednesday, more than half the Congress members were not present. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sat through the more-than-four-hour debate while most of his party colleagues gave it a miss.
