Former Karnataka deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi’s exit from the BJP and his joining the Congress on Friday provided fresh ammunition against a senior saffron party leader from Karnataka at the Centre. One section of the party pointed out that Savadi was close to the leader whom he considered as his ‘guru’. The question they raised was that why he could not stop Savadi, an MLC. The power corridors were abuzz with rumours that the former transport minister even refused to take calls from the senior leaders once he decided to join the Congress.
The Council of Scientific And Industrial Research–National Physical Laboratory (CSIR–NPL) is opening its doors to the public, schoolchildren in particular, this coming week to create awareness under the ‘One week, One Lab’ programme. CSIR-NPL is the custodian of the Indian Standard Time, generated using an atomic time scale consisting of cesium atomic clocks and hydrogen masers. The lab also standardised the measurements of gas and airborne particles for monitoring atmospheric pollution. It also developed the ‘election ink’ (indelible ink) used to mark voters — all these technologies will now be open for the public to see.
