In an age when most political leaders use pre-recorded calls, WhatsApp messages and social media to connect with their constituents, Dr Sanjeev Balyan, the Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is going old school.
Balyan, seeking a third term from his Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabha constituency, has written letters in bulk and sent it to people such as village heads, soldiers and security personnel. He has written about his work between 2014 and 2024 — including the construction of roads and a cow sanctuary.
Here, There, Where?
BSP’s Jaunpur MP Shyam Singh Yadav Sunday joined Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Agra. But his supporters wanted to know which party he was backing — the Congress or the SP. There are two reasons for the confusion. First, Yadav is eager to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Jaunpur, but that seat has gone to the SP under its seat-sharing pact with the Congress.
Second, Jaunpur is adjacent to Varanasi, through which Rahul’s yatra had passed last week. Yadav, however, did not participate in that leg of the yatra. Instead he joined the Agra route where SP chief Akhilesh Yadav turned up. On Sunday, BSP chief Mayawati Sunday hinted she may deny tickets to those wandering “here and there” to suit their own interests.
