In the wake of an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Kerala, the state health department Wednesday sounded an alert for all districts. After a review meeting on the Covid-19 situation, Health Minister Veena George said there is a slight increase in the number of cases in the state. At present, the state has 1,026 active Covid-19 cases, with 111 patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals. On Tuesday, as many as 172 cases were reported. The minister said an alert has been issued to all districts to strengthen surveillance measures. “At the same time, no Covid-19 clusters have emerged anywhere in the state. Cases are being analysed every day. Hospitals were told to make ready a surge plan. All people visiting hospitals should wear masks,’’ she said. The minister said genomic surveillance of cases would be increased to ascertain whether new variants of the virus have emerged.
