Kerala woman’s DNA matches with baby given in adoption, govt to alert court
The DNA test on all three was conducted to confirm biological parents of the baby who was given in adoption, allegedly without Chandran’s consent in Andhra Pradesh in August this year.

The DNA test conducted on former Kerala SFI leader Anupama S Chandran on Tuesday matched with that of the one-year-old baby, proving that Chandran and her partner, Ajith Kumar, are parents of the infant.
The DNA test on all three was conducted to confirm biological parents of the baby who was given in adoption, allegedly without Chandran’s consent in Andhra Pradesh in August this year.
Soon after the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology here revealed the results of the tests, the district Child Welfare Committee allowed the couple to visit the child, now lodged at a care home.
Chandran, 23, had got separated from her baby three days after delivery in October 2020, allegedly since her parents, who were also local CPI(M) cadres, were against their daughter bringing up the baby with Kumar, as he was not legally divorced from his first wife.
After meeting their baby, Chandran told the media, “It is a big relief for me. For the last year, I have been waiting for this moment. I am pleading with officials to take steps to hand over (our) baby to me at the earliest.”
Although their DNA results matched, a hurdle left before Chandran is the decision of the family court in Thiruvananthapuram, which had last month stayed the adoption process.
State Health and Family Welfare Minister Veena George said the court will be informed about the outcome of the test. “The government has always stood with Chandran’s demand.’’
George said the state government has asked the Central Adoption Resources Authority to give priority to the Andhra couple who have returned Chandran’s son the next possible opportunity to adopt a child.
