Surat man attacked for complaining against stray cattle on road
Singhanpore police Inspector S B Padheriya said, “We have registered an offence on the basis of Vaghasiya's statements. Rabari has gone underground.”

Cattle rearers allegedly attacked a man on Wednesday for complaining to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) against the presence of stray cattle on the roads of Singhanpore, resulting in traffic congestion.
The police said that Dharmesh Vaghasiya (38), a resident of Shradhadeep society in Singhanpore, had on August 5 filed an online complaint with the SMC against the cattle menace. On August 8, an official from SMC’s Katargam zone asked Vaghasiya to come to the concerned road but he refused as he was at work.
Later in the afternoon, Vaghasiya received a call from an unknown number. The police said the caller identified himself as Ranga Rabari and warned Vaghasiya not to complain to the SMC again.
Following this, Vaghasiya wrote to SMC commissioner about the threat. Members of Rabari community are nomadic cattle and camel herders as well as shepherds.
On Wednesday morning, as Vaghasiya left home for work, Ranga Rabari and three others allegedly intercepted him on way and beat him up.
As a police team arrived at the spot after Vaghasiya managed to call up the police control room, the accused fled. Vaghasiya went on to file a complaint with the SMC and the Singhanpore police station.
Singhanpore police Inspector S B Padheriya said, “We have registered an offence on the basis of Vaghasiya’s statements. Rabari has gone underground.”
The accused have been booked under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace), 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) of the IPC.
