State BJP president C R Paatil on Thursday credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with making history when Pakistan set free captured Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman “without torturing him”.
Addressing mediapersons in Surat on the occasion of Modi government’s nine years in power at the Centre, Paatil said: “Air Force Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was held captive by neighbouring enemy country after his aircraft was shot down during aerial combat in 2019. In the history of war, when a jawan of an enemy country is caught, he is tortured and cases are lodged against him by the enemy country. The PM made history and led Pakistan to set free the captured wing commander, without torturing him.”
He was speaking on the “many success stories” of the Modi government.
On the Covid-19 pandemic, Paatil said, “Without waiting to get vaccines from foreign countries, the PM motivated the scientists of our country to develop vaccines… The vaccines are given freely to the people. No other country had given free vaccines to its citizens.”
On what Gujarat has received from the Centre, Paatil said, “The Narmada water reached Kutch and other parts of the state for irrigation. The AIIMS is coming up in Rajkot…”
The state BJP, meanwhile, held a day-long executive meeting of all its seven morchas at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev area on Thursday. The party programmes to mark nine years of the Modi government were discussed at the meeting. The BJP has already launched various programmes to mark the occasion.
BJP national general secretary Vinod Tavde asked all the party workers to take all the programmes decided by the central unit of the party to the people.
