A woman, along with her brother, were booked by the police on Wednesday after her estranged husband filed a police complaint alleging that she had allowed their 10-year-old son to drive a car in Surat.

The police said that the complainant, Jenish Chavda, is a resident of Katargam and works as a supervisor in a construction firm. He has been separated from his wife Khusbu for the last two years. Currently, Khusbu and her son Rudra stay at her parents’ house in Valsad, the police added.

In his complaint to the police, Jenish has alleged that the incident took place on August 2 when Khushbu, Rudra and her brother Nirav Chavda had gone for a trip to Daman in a car. On way, Nirav allegedly allowed Rudra to drive the car by sitting on his lap, Jenish told the police.

In his complaint, Jenish claimed that on December 6, he saw a video of Rudra driving on Khusbu’s WhatsApp status. Following this, Jenish filed a complaint with the Pardi police in Valsad against Khushbu and Nirav. The two were later booked under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on public way), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) of the Indian Penal Code.

When contacted, Pardi police Inspector B J Sarvaiya said, “We have registered an offence as per Jenish’s complaint. The couple has been staying separately since the last two years…”

“Nirav had allowed Rudra to drive the car, which was a serious act, putting lives in danger. The incident took place on national highway 48. The accused will be arrested soon,” the officer added.
