Five days after he was attacked by a stray dog, a 29-year- old diamond polisher died in Katargam area of Surat Tuesday. Police said the the deceased, Rajan Nagina Gupta, was taking medicines after the dog bite injury, but the cause of death is yet to ascertained. According to police, Rajan did not go to work on Tuesday due to ill health and when he was found unconscious at his rented accommodation, his roommates intimated the police and 108 services. The paramedical staff of 108 services took Rajan to the SMC-run SMIMER hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Later the postmortem was conducted at the SMIMER hospital. Police have lodged a case of accidental death and started a probe into the incident. After primary investigations, Chowk Bazaar Police Inspector M B Asura said, “We came to know that five days ago, Rajan was attacked by a stray dog while returning home from his workplace. He was taking treatment from a local physician for dog bite injury on his right leg. Presently the cause of death is not known. The postmortem report is yet to arrive.” Rajan, who has been working as a diamond polisher at factory in Surat since the last few years, hails from Khrushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh.
