Three militants were killed in an overnight gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama. Police say one of the slain militants was responsible for killing of a police constable in Pulwama on May 13.
On Saturday evening, a joint team of J-K Police, Army and paramilitary forces cordoned off Drabgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama after inputs about the presence of militants in the village.

As the joint team was zeroing in on the target, the militants in the village opened fire, trying to break the security cordon. The forces returned the fire leading to a gunfight.
Police said that the gunfight ended on Sunday morning with the killing of all the three militants. “All the three killed terrorists are locals, linked with terror outfit LeT…,” J-K Police said in a tweet.
Police have identified the militants as Junaid Shergojri, Fazil nazir Bhat and Irfan Ahmad Malik. Police claimed to have recovered two AK rifles, a pistol and some ammunition from the slain militants.
According to the police, one of the slain militants, Junaid, was responsible for killing a policeman, Riyaz Ahmad Thoker, at Gadoora village of Pulwama on May 13. “One of them has been identified as Junaid Shergojri, involved in the killing of our colleague Martyr Riyaz Ahmad on 13/5/2022,” police said in a tweet while quoting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
Speaking to the reporters Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Kumar said that 99 militants have been killed this year, so far.
