Subsidy in one member’s name,Pune piped gas consumers up in arms
LPG cylinders will be sold to all domestic LPG consumers at market rate.
With oil marketing companies asking societies with piped LPG connection to nominate one member in whose account the entire subsidy should be transferred, nearly 500 housing societies in Pune have put up a representation before the District Collector against the government order. They want the government to transfer the subsidy to individual consumers.
The government order on which the move is based states that the person nominated by the society for the transfer of the sum subsidy should be a part of the managing committee of the society and would have to submit an affidavit and undertaking that he/she will promptly transfer the LPG subsidy to a regular bank account of the society for distribution to the residents on the basis of their consumption.
The oil companies have also stated that individual members of the society will have to submit an authorisation letter to the respective oil marketing company through their distributor that they would not have any objection of the oil company transfers the subsidy into the account of the nominated person.
With Pune, being among the pilot cities where the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG consumer has been launched from November 1,citizens were awaiting a clearer directive for piped gas connections. “We do not want the subsidy going to any one member of the society.
It is a big hassle to further distribute the subsidy,”said Sheetal Avle,a piped gas consumer. The government has given a grace period of three months within which to link the LPG consumer number and bank account with Aadhaar number, during which they would continue to get the LPG cylinders at subsidised rate, while after this period the LPG cylinders will be sold to all domestic LPG consumers as well those using piped gas connections at market rate.
