Thirteen men were detained in Gujarat’s Rajkot and a murder case is set to be registered after two artisans from West Bengal were allegedly beaten to death over the alleged theft of 100 gm of silver, police said Friday.
Rahul Sheikh, one of the artisans, was allegedly caught while trying to steal 100 gm of silver from MBS Ornaments, a jewellery-making unit on Bhavnagar Road. He was leaving the unit after his shift ended on Thursday night, police said.
After he was caught with silver by the unit’s security guard, Pushparaj, Rahul apparently told him that he was handing over the stolen silver to a fellow artisan, Minu Sheikh, from West Bengal, officials added. Minu worked in another jewellery-making unit in Rajkot.
Rahul was then forced, police said, to call Minu to the MBS Ornaments unit where the two men were allegedly thrashed by 13 men. “The security guard, his brother, the owner of the unit, three managers and eight other artisans
