: The state government on Wednesday said it has decided to give assistance of Rs 2 per kg to farmers who sold their Kharif produce of red onions in Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) mandis in the state after March 6, the initial deadline of the scheme. Farmers who sold red onions in APMCs till May 31 will be eligible to get the assistance, the government has said. “The Gujarat government had taken the farmer-friendly decision of providing Rs 2 per kg assistance to farmers growing red onion and those who had sold their such onion in yards of various APMCs of various districts. The government has taken one more farmer-friendly decision to extend the duration of this package so that more and more farmers can avail its benefit,” read an official release quoting Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel. The state government announced an assistance package for onion growers earlier this year as onion prices crashed.
