Four days after a 24-year-old youth went missing at the historic Sinhagad Fort in Pune, he was traced from the same area on Sunday evening, police said.

Police said that while his condition is stable, they are probing the reason behind his disappearance.

The youth, Gautam Gaikwad, a native of Phaltan in Satara district is residing in Hyderabad, where he ran a cafe.

Gautam and four other friends had gone to the Sinhagad Fort on August 20. When they reached the “Tanaji Kada” on the Fort around 4.30 pm, Gautam left to attend nature’s call.

When he did not return, his friends searched for him and when they could not trace him, they informed the police.

The Pune rural police, along with emergency response team, trekkers and local residents, launched a search operation amid heavy rain.

His family members were also informed and a missing person report was filed at the Haveli police station.

While checking the footage from the CCTV cameras at and around the Sinhagad Fort, police said, a man resembling Gautam was spotted at the foot of Sinhagad Fort.

According to police, the man spotted in the video seemed like he was trying to hide from the cameras.

On Sunday evening, Gautam was spotted at the fort by the emergency response team.

“The emergency response team has traced the missing man. It is learnt that he is stable, but needs medical treatment. He is being taken to a hospital. Further investigation will be conducted,” Police Inspector Sachin Wangade of Haveli police station said.

Police said that they will probe how and for what purpose he left his group and what he was doing thereafter.
