Wildlife week: CME kids visit Katraj Zoo

Over 100 children,a few jawans and their families visited the Katraj Zoo on the occasion of Wildlife Week that was being celebrated at the zoo from October 1-7.

Over 100 children,a few jawans and their families visited the Katraj Zoo on the occasion of Wildlife Week that was being celebrated at the zoo from October 1-7.

Lt Gen S S Sengupta,Commandant,CME,said,“Outdoor exposures to places of interest such as parks,zoos,planetoriums and lakes are essential to mould these young minds and infuse a sense of responsibilty to mother nature.”

Shruti Ganesh ,an eleven year old girl said,“It was very educational and enjoyable trip since the Katraj Zoo is large,well-maintained and a good place for children’s outings.” Till date,the children have visited the section for large animals in May 2010, whereas in this trip, they visited the Snake Park.

Another trip is planned in November- December to visit the aviary and small animals section.

Highlights included the big four poisonous snakes,all of which are found in CME- Spectacled Cobra,Russels Viper,Saw Scaled Viper and Common Krait along with the King Cobra,Indian Python,South American Green Iguana. “It was a learning experience for the little ones,” said a CME spokesperson.
