A day after a 47-year-old ex-serviceman was found dead in his house,Kondhwa police booked his son and wife under the charges of murder. The two told the police that they took the extreme step as they were fed up of his alcoholism and torture he inflicted on them.
Kondhwa police have identified the victim as Vishnu Sonawane,an ex-serviceman who had retired from the services a few years ago. His son Subhash and wife Janabai have been detained under the charges of murder.
Senior inspector Prasad Hasabnis said,Sonawane was an alcoholic and he repeatedly troubled family members. He even physically and verbally abused his wife. On Friday morning,he picked up a fight with his family members. The family members reported the matter to police who reprimanded him. He was not seen after he was let off by the police. In the early hours of Saturday,he again came back and started pelting stones at the house.
Hasabnis added,The neighbours told us that the family members took him inside the house. In the evening, the family members informed their neighbours that Sonawane had died. Some of the neighbours sensed something wrong and called up the police control room. When our team reached there, they found bruises on Sonawanes face. The family told police that he must have met with an accident under the influence of alcohol.
Police found some of the statements given by family members contradictory. After intense questioning,Subhash confessed to beating up his father and also confirmed his mothers involvement in the crime. They were detained after the funeral of Sonawane.
