For designer Rahul Mishra, cotton is “white gold”. He was at the School of Fashion Technology,Karve Nagar,as a part of Cotton Council International’s fourth edition of Let’s Design,a reality show which gives a platform to young designers to showcase their talent. “Cotton is one of the essentials of human lives. From the Vedic age till the end of one’s journey,it has been omnipresent. Cotton has been the cleanest fabric,” says Mishra who is currently working on the reversible Kerala cotton fabric and organic khadi, which “indirectly supports the entire village Maheshwar.” His focus is also on his new bridal collection available at Rudraksh,Aundh, which boasts of engineered handloom lehengas. “Wedding dresses are bought as per weight in the country. People believe in ‘the heavier, the better’. But that is a myth. My light-weight embroidered lehengas do have costly crystals but fine karigari,” he says. Mishra’s ideal clients are those who are “well-read,who have travelled across the world and who are not restricted by trends in B-town. Bollywood really doesn’t interest me,” he says. He even terms fashion weeks as “tamashas”,except for the ones in Delhi. “I see Pune really growing fashion-wise. I want to shift base here soon. Mumbai is too fast paced for my liking,” he adds.
