Wadas learn how to live with little water

Heated arguments and quarrels over public taps have become a common sight in Kasba Peth,Somwar Peth,Ghorpade Peth and other areas located in the heart of city. The region particularly comprises old structures like wadas and several old buildings in narrow lanes, where distribution of water is not well managed like we see in big residential societies.

There was ample water supply in several Peth areas last year. But along with water cut, there is also unequal distribution of water in these areas this year.

In some parts, water supply comes once a day, while in some areas it comes twice a day. Sujay Pailwan, resident of a small apartment in Rasta Peth, said they get water once a day. “We do not get water in evening. Our apartment is small. So we somehow manage things with the available water,” he said. “We expect Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to supply water to all areas with a proper plan and schedule so that situation does not become worse in the coming months,” he added.

Nilesh Dhayarkar, also a resident of a small apartment in Somwar Peth, said,“We do get water twice a day. But the flow of water is very slow. It is just March. If the situation continues, things would get difficult in April and May.”

When contacted,an official from Swargate water works, said,“We have prepared a time table for water distribution. Water is being supplied only once a day. Water is supplied mainly between 5 am and 9.30 am. Only some areas get water in afternoon and evening.
