As many as 200 retired police personnel and 16,500 police mitras (volunteers) including 5,000 college students would help about 9,500 cops to maintain law and order during the Ganesh immersion procession on Saturday.

Cops keep watch on procession routes

As many as 200 retired police personnel and 16,500 police mitras (volunteers) including 5,000 college students would help about 9,500 cops to maintain law and order during the Ganesh immersion procession on Saturday.

During the procession,248 civil defence personnel,NCC cadets,NSS volunteers,366 Home Guard personnel,companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs),Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS),and striking force would be deployed across the city.

About 150 CCTV cameras have been installed on the main Ganesh immersion procession route on Laxmi Road and also at 10 immersion ghats to keep a watch on any suspicious movements. Policemen in plain clothes would also move in crowded spots on the procession routes. Watch towers have been erected at strategic locations.

Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol is monitoring security arrangements in the city. Joint commissioner Sajivkumar Singhal,along with four additional commissioners,15 deputy commissioners,42 assistant commissioners,125 inspectors,465 sub-inspectors,1,624 woman constables and 6,840 other cops would be on the roads to control the situation.

Police have formed squads to check eve-teasing and chain-snatching during processions. The immersion procession on Laxmi Road,Tilak Road,Kelkar Road and Kumthekar Road would start at 10.30am Saturday. All five manache Ganpatis would follow the procession route on Laxmi Road.

KCB to felicitate best pandals

The Khadki Cantonment Board will give awards to the best decorated and themed pandals in its juridiction. The awards that include cash and memento will be presented at the Republic day function held in the cantonment area.
